Old Masters of the 17th Century

Old Masters of the 17th Century for Guitar presents a distinguished selection of Baroque masterpieces in idiomatic guitar arrangements by Luise Walker. Drawing on lute, guitar, keyboard, violin and orchestral repertoire, the edition introduces works by Johann Anton Count Losy von Losinthal, Robert de Visée, Ludovico Roncalli, George Frideric Handel, Johann Sebastian Bach, Arcangelo Corelli, Jean-Philippe Rameau and Giuseppe Antonio Vincenzo Aldrovandini.

At the heart of the collection are Losy’s complete Partita in D major and de Visée’s Suite in D minor, complemented by selected sarabandes, menuets, bourrées, gigues, preludes and other characteristic Baroque dance movements. The carefully crafted arrangements preserve the stylistic character of the original sources while making this important repertoire accessible to the classical guitar.

A valuable edition for teaching, study and concert performance, offering an authentic introduction to seventeenth- and early eighteenth-century music for solo guitar.

The selected works are predominantly arranged for solo guitar, while the two concluding works have been arranged by Luise Walker for two guitars.
