La cascatella
Federico Orsolino (1918–1993) was an Italian guitarist and composer of the 20th century. Capriccio (La cascatella) for six-string guitar is one of his compositions.
A contemporary review published in Der Gitarrist, the journal of the Gitarristische Vereinigung, characterizes Orsolino’s compositional style as being “almost throughout” shaped by melodic construction and “masterful inspiration.” The works Piccole impressioni di campagna and Capriccio (La cascatella), discussed together in the review, are described as “moderately difficult to difficult” in terms of their technical demands.
Capriccio therefore represents an interesting contribution to the Italian guitar repertoire of the 20th century. The work combines melodically oriented musical writing with technically demanding elements and is particularly suited to advanced guitarists, as well as to concert performance and pedagogical study within this repertoire.
