First Steps in Playing the Guitar in Groups or Classes
Designed by Alois Bröder and Martin Schumacher for guitar lessons in groups or classes from Year 5 onwards, *Fische haben nie kein Knie* contains a wide range of one- to four-part pieces, ranging from international folk songs to examples of contemporary composition. In the main section, ‘Pieces to Play’, basic guitar techniques are introduced and the corresponding sheet music presented, with canons and ostinato accompaniments encouraging constant interaction. The four supplementary sections – ‘Chords’, ‘Rhythm’, ‘Improvisation’ and ‘Listening’ – serve both to liven up the lessons and to broaden musical awareness, and can be woven into the main section on an individual basis at the teacher’s discretion. This innovative teaching approach gains further artistic value through the varied use of texts by Joachim Ringelnatz, which also make *Fische haben nie kein Knie* a small reader.
