As early as the 16th century, John Dowland (1562–1626) realised the idea of a work for two players with his famous Galliard for lute. Reinhard Kaiser takes up this charming concept, long forgotten, in his editions *Friends I* and *Friends II*, and develops it further in a contemporary style.
