La Primavera ‘Spring’ | Antonio Vivaldi | Heinrichshofen publishing house
Antonio Vivaldi
Concerto No 1 La Primavera ‘Spring’
2 Soprano recorder (SA | AT)
The “Spring” (RV 269) from the “Four Seasons” is the first of Twelve Concertos op. 8 for violin and orchestra published in Amsterdam towards the end of 1725 by Michel-Charles Le Cène under the title of Il cimento dell’armonia e dell’invenzione (The Battle between Harmony and Inspiration). Like the other ones, this “Season” is accompagnied by a sonetto dimostrativo (a descriptive sonnet) made up of written verses illustrating in detail the “programme” of this miniature dramma per musica. The narrative runs as follows: I. Allegro (F Major): The spring theme of the first few measures forms the refrain of a vivid account whose stanzas are focused on birds, fountains, wind, and thunderstorms. II. Largo (D Minor): The shepherd is sunk in sleep on the leafy ground, lulled by soft breezes. III. Allegro (F Major): Nymphs and shepherds join in a peasant dance written in rondo form. The lines in Italian come from the original sonnets while the text in brackets, which is translated into German, was added to the score by Vivaldi himself to supplement the description given by the poems. The reduction to recorder duet is based on the original five-part score. The musical text follows the Amsterdam edition in addition to the Manchester manuscripts. As might be expected, the phrasing and dynamics of this edition have been adapted for performance on the recorder. To preserve the overall interpretation of the work along optimum lines, several changes of recorder are necessary during performance. Accordingly, the executants should have the following instruments available and in readiness: Soprano/descant and alto/treble recorders (1st part), alto/treble and tenor recorders (2nd part).

Dalmatian shepherd's volume | Gotthold Frotscher | Heinrichshofen publishing house
Gotthold Frotscher
Dalmatian shepherd's volume
2-3 recorders
Christmas music from Dalmatia for two and three recorders of different tunings or any other instruments. In Volume IV of the International Music Society’s anthology, Robert Lach published organ pieces which he had heard on the island of Lussin during a Christmas midnight mass and had subsequently copied from a manuscript dated 1 December 1830. The melodies are so lovely that it seemed sensible to make them available to recorder players in a simplified version. These pastorals combine Italian and Croatian elements in a delightful blend, based on ancient folk tunes. Instead of recorders, any other instruments may be used; the violin, for example, is well suited for the lower part of the three-part arrangements.

Suite de Pièces | Jaques Martin Hotteterre | Heinrichshofen publishing house
Jacques Martin Hotteterre
Suite de Pièces
2 Altblockflöten
Suite de pièces pour la Maréchalle de Villars Jaques Martin Hotteterre, known as “Le Romain” – the Roman – was born about 1680 and died at the age of 81 in Paris in 1761. Jaques Martin's father Henri was a well-known chamber musician and excellent instrument maker, so that music became accessible to him at an early age. In 1705, after a long stay in Italy, he entered the service of the French court as an instrumentalist. Jaques Martin Hotteterre, who enjoyed a high reputation as a flutist, is considered the founder of the great French flute tradition. His method book, Princips de la flûte traversière ou flûte d'Allemagne, de la flûte à bec ou flûte douce et du haut-bois, published in 1707 and reprinted shortly afterwards in the Netherlands and London, is still considered one of the fundamental works for serious flutists today. In addition to further teaching works for the flute and the musette, he wrote a large number of sonatas, duets, trios, suites and pieces, many of which were dedicated to high-ranking persons at court.
