Christmas music from Dalmatia for two and three recorders of different tunings or any other instruments. In Volume IV of the International Music Society’s anthology, Robert Lach published organ pieces which he had heard on the island of Lussin during a Christmas midnight mass and had subsequently copied from a manuscript dated 1 December 1830. The melodies are so lovely that it seemed sensible to make them available to recorder players in a simplified version. These pastorals combine Italian and Croatian elements in a delightful blend, based on ancient folk tunes. Instead of recorders, any other instruments may be used; the violin, for example, is well suited for the lower part of the three-part arrangements.

Christmas carols from many foreign countries - mostly discovered by chance - are presented here in two-part movements, to which a 3rd voice ad lib. is added. The songs are suitable for playing with soprano recorders, transverse recorders, violins or other melody instruments as well as for singing; the 3rd voice is intended for tenor or alto recorders with pure recorder instrumentation, but can also be played with violin or guitar.The texts tell of Christmas events as well as customs and traditions, the melodies and their rhythms also of the different temperaments of the peoples.
